If you’ve ever wondered how to protect yourself (or someone you love) from online scams, phone fraud, or phishing tricks, this book is for you.

Scam Smackdown is a fast-paced, story-filled scam prevention book designed to help everyday people recognize fraud, respond wisely, and walk with others through a digital world that’s full of risk but not without hope.

Why I Created This Book

This book has been on my mind for a long time. Not because I have everything figured out, but because I’ve walked alongside too many people who’ve been tricked, shamed, or financially hurt by fraud they never saw coming, and - frankly - I'm tired of it.

Scammers today aren’t just targeting people you hear about on the news. They’re going after everyday folks, using urgency, emotion, and false familiarity to pressure people of goodwill into clicking, paying, or sharing things they’d normally think twice about. I’ve seen how fast it happens, and how deeply it can wound.

I wrote Scam Smackdown as a minister, neighbor, and friend who believes we can (and should) all get a little wiser, a little calmer, and a lot more protected.

What’s Inside

You’ll find 14 clear, practical rules in this book—habits that may sound like common sense at first, but that actually require more awareness and intentionality than we often realize. Things like:

  • Slowing down and staying grounded when something feels urgent
  • Recognizing red flags in messages, emails, and pop-ups
  • Guarding your personal information like treasure
  • Choosing safer, more secure payment methods
  • Talking things through with someone you trust before making a decision

Each chapter explores not just what to do, but why it matters—and how even simple choices can make a big difference when practiced consistently. You’ll find realistic examples, thoughtful reflection questions, and small action steps designed to help you build habits that stick. The tone is gentle and grounded—not alarmist, but full of practical, everyday wisdom.

Whether you’re in your 20s or your 80s, whether you’ve been scammed before or just want to stay ahead, this book meets you where you are. It’s especially helpful for caregivers, aging parents, young adults, and anyone trying to build a stronger filter in a world that often rushes us to act quickly and trust too easily.
